Questions to Ask About Consultant Access and Safety

Published by The Streamline Group

Plan site access, safety, confidentiality, production observation, and change authority before a consultant arrives on the floor.

What Can Be Observed?

Confirm which shifts, machines, setups, meetings, records, and restricted areas are available. If the representative condition will not be running, decide whether another visit or follow-up is needed.

What Rules Apply?

Share visitor orientation, PPE, escort, photography, device, confidentiality, export-control, and data-handling requirements that apply to the facility.

Who Can Authorize a Change?

Observation does not grant permission to change programs, parameters, tools, workholding, schedules, quality checks, or documents. Identify the responsible approvers before any trial or implementation.

Build Access Into the Work Plan

  • Identify required orientation, personal protective equipment, escorts, and restricted areas.
  • Agree how drawings, programs, customer information, and production records may be viewed or retained.
  • Schedule interviews so operators and supervisors are not pulled away at the same time.
  • Choose representative production events and a backup if the schedule changes.
  • Name the person who can approve a trial or stop it if conditions become unsafe or unsuitable.
